The Banyak islands, in the Indian Ocean, lie about 25 miles from the mainland and its port Singkil in Aceh province, Sumatera. You can reach Singkil by plane from the capital Medan in about an hour or by bus in about 10 hours.
The island of Sikandang lies about 1,5 hours away from Balai(the main village of the Banyaks) by traditional wooden boat, or just 15 minutes if you take a speed boat!
